Research revealed that TV and movies had created dangerous misconceptions. Because of this, most parents assume they could tell if their child has an eating disorder because they would appear severely underweight. In reality though, most young people suffering from eating disorders appear healthy and are very involved in extracurricular activities. This campaign inspired parents to look closer at their kids. And while the radio spot caused a flood of angry calls, RWJ’s eating disorder clinic was soon filled to capacity – providing essential help to those who needed it.
